Smoothie Power

What is it about smoothies that has become so irresistible to me lately? Maybe it’s the delicious real fruit flavor. Maybe it’s the fact that I can consume handfuls of spinach without tasting it. Maybe it’s the fact that they leave me feeling satisfyingly full.

What ever it is, I’ve been trying different combinations lately, and thought I’d share my current favorite.

Strawberry Banana Green Smoothie

  • 1/8 cup oats
  • spoonful of flax seeds
  • 1/3 cup almond milk (really, any milk will work)
  • 1 banana (broken apart)
  • 4 strawberries
  • handful of spinach
  • 2 ice cubes
  • cinnamon to taste
  • 1/3 cup granola

Mix everything but cinnamon and granola in a blender. (Actually, I have put the cinnamon in the blender before; it works either way.) Then top smoothie with granola and enjoy!

These smoothies have made my mornings much more pleasant (along with coffee, of course). I’ve even found myself looking forward to breakfast—though I still prefer eating breakfast during the 9 a.m. hours, rather than the 6 a.m. hour.
