Cruisin’ for Brews

February 19, 2013

In Georgia, it is against the law for breweries to sell beer directly to customers. Instead, when you visit a brewery in the state, you can pay about $10 for a branded glass. In the glass are tickets or tokens that can be exchanged for fresh beer samples directly from the source.

For the last five weeks, Matt and I have visited four different up-and-coming breweries. Burnt Hickory in Kennesaw on Jan. 19; Monday Night in Atlanta on Jan. 24; Jailhouse in Hampton on Feb. 2; Triple C in Charlotte, N.C., on Feb. 9; and Burnt Hickory again on Feb. 16.

Tortellini and Garden Veggie Bake

February 12, 2013

A few weeks ago, I made a delicious (yet somewhat complex) recipe I found on Pinterest. Of course, I altered it to taste based on my and Matt’s preferences.

Here’s how I did it.

DutchOven3

For Christmas, I got a beautiful red Dutch oven from Matt’s sweet grandma, so I’ve been researching recipes to cook in it. On my yums board on Pinterest, I had previously pinned a recipe for paleasagna, so I decided to give it a try.

I adapted the recipe to Matt and my tastes — no chunky tomatoes, onions, goat cheese, or squash to mess with. (For the record, I’m not the one who dislikes squash. Yum.)

View at the square on New Year’s

Today marks the last day in my epic 12-day vacation. So what have I done over the break? Mostly, I relaxed, ran errands, visited family, hung out with friends, and ate — a lot.

So today also marks my return to a healthy lifestyle. No more holiday treat, junk food binges. Time to lose that weight I gained over the last 12 days.

I did run several times during my break, but now that I’m dealing with a sore throat and potential cold, I may have to take a little break so I can get well.

New Year’s was relaxed and fun though. I spent the evening with a group of good friends doing our own little pub crawl in Decatur visiting some favorite restaurants: Brick Store and Leon’s, and ringing in 2013 at Square Pub, where we actually sat outside in the square.

Resolved

Christmas2012.jpg

Every year I like to make resolutions—goals I’d like to work on in the coming year. I like the idea of having a few things to try to accomplish over the next 12 months.

These are my goals from 2012:

Radio silence

December 22, 2012

Wow, where have I been the last two months?

Mostly, I’ve been working during the week, and relaxing on the weekends. And running, baking, and shopping.

Despite the onset of the holidays, I’ve been serious about keeping up my running schedule. It’s not quite as strenuous as before, but I’m trying not to hold that against myself through the winter — as long as I get out there between two and four times per week.

Pumpkin Spice Protein Smoothie

October 17, 2012

No, I’m not sick of pumpkin yet.

A while back, I repinned a recipe for a skinny pumpkin spice frappe. I attempted to make said recipe, and it did not turn out how I was hoping.

But with the idea of a cold pumpkin spice blended beverage in my head, I decided to try a protein smoothie today after my run.
